Getting started
How do I get started with SchoolBusTrack?
How long does setup take?
Most schools are live within 30–60 minutes. You need to: create routes, add bus stops, enrol students, and ask drivers to download the driver app. Our onboarding support team is available via live chat to guide you through every step.
Do I need to buy any special hardware?
No hardware required. Drivers use any Android smartphone they already own (Android 7+). The SchoolBusTrack driver app broadcasts GPS location during active trips. There is nothing to install on the bus itself.
Can I import our existing student data?
Yes. You can bulk-import students from a CSV file in the admin dashboard. We provide a template to make this easy. Our support team can also help with data imports for larger schools.

How much does SchoolBusTrack cost?
Is there a free trial?
All new schools receive a 14-day Professional plan trial at no charge. You can use every feature without any limitations. No credit card is needed to start your trial.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit/credit cards, bank transfers, and USSD payments via Paystack. All payments are processed in Nigerian Naira (NGN).
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription from your billing settings at any time. Access continues until the end of your current paid period. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for unused time.
Do you offer discounts for multiple schools or NGOs?
Tracking & GPS
How accurate is the GPS tracking?
Accuracy depends on the driver's phone GPS and mobile network. In open areas you can expect 3–5 metres accuracy. In dense urban areas or inside buildings it may be 10–20 metres. Our app uses both GPS and network positioning to maximise accuracy on Nigerian networks.
Does it work offline or in areas with poor internet?
The driver app caches location updates and sends them in batches when connectivity resumes, so trips are never lost. Parents may see a short delay in the live map during low-signal areas, but the trip history will always be complete.
Does tracking continue when the driver app is in the background?
Yes. The driver app uses a foreground service (with a persistent notification) to ensure tracking continues reliably even when the screen is off. Battery optimisation is handled automatically.
Can parents track without a smartphone?
Yes. Parents with a basic phone can receive SMS alerts at key journey events (child boarded, bus departing, ETA, arrived at school). A smartphone is only needed for the live map view.
Parent app
How do parents get access?
Once a school admin adds a parent and links them to their child, the parent receives an email with a download link and their login credentials. The app is available on Google Play and the App Store.
Can one parent account track multiple children?
Yes. A single parent account can be linked to multiple children across different buses or routes, all from one app.
What notifications will parents receive?
Parents can choose from: child boarded, bus departed from school, ETA countdown (15 min, 5 min), bus arrived at stop, trip completed, route deviation alert, and emergency/panic alerts. All notifications are configurable in the parent app settings.
Is the parent app free?
The parent app is completely free to download and use. The school pays the subscription — parents never pay anything to track their children.
Security & data
How is our student data protected?
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We store student first names only — full surnames are not required. We never share student data with advertisers or third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Who can see live GPS location?
Live location is only visible to: the school admin, the assigned driver's co-driver (if set), and parents of students currently on that bus. Location is not visible to other parents or the general public.
Is SchoolBusTrack compliant with Nigerian data protection law?
Yes. We are designed to be compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). We have a Data Processing Agreement available on request for schools that need it.
What happens to our data if we cancel?
You can export all your data at any time. After cancellation you have a 30-day window to download your data. After that, we securely delete it from our servers within 90 days.
Technical support
What support is available?
All plans include email support (hello@schoolbustrack.ng) with a 24-hour response target. Professional and Enterprise plans include live chat support and a dedicated onboarding call.
What if a driver's phone is lost or stolen during a trip?
The admin can immediately end any active trip from the dashboard. The trip data captured up to that point is saved. A new driver can start a fresh trip session from another device.
Is there an API for integration with our school management system?
Yes. Enterprise plan customers get access to our REST API and webhook system to integrate with existing SIS platforms, attendance systems, and communication tools. Contact us for API documentation.
